MANILA, Philippines — Palawan and Mindoro will have scattered rain on Monday due to the southwest monsoon, or the habagat, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Nakakaapekto itong hanging habagat partikular na nga sa may bahagi ng Palawan at Mindoro provinces,” Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said during Sunday afternoon’s public weather forecast.

Palawan and Mindoro will have cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides are possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have fair weather with chances of isolated rain triggered by localized thunderstorms, said Badrina.

Despite the rains, no gale warning was raised in the country’s seaboards. Badrina however advised those going out to sea to beware of thunderstorms.

“Ibig sabihin po nito ligtas pa ring pumalaot ang mga sasakyang pandagat sa karagatan ng ating bansa pero po kapag meron po tayong mga thunderstorms o pagkidlat, pagkulog, ibayong pag-iingat po ang kinakailangan natin dahil posibleng pa ring lumakas ‘yung alon ng karagatan kapag meron po tayong mga thunderstorms,” he cautioned.

(It means that vessels are safe to go out to sea but when there are thunderstorms, care should be taken as waves may grow stronger.)

Pagasa said it is not monitoring any low pressure area or weather disturbance in the country at present.
