Revilla appeals to critics: Give Bongbong Marcos a chance

MANILA, Philippines — The administration of presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. should be given a chance, Senator Bong Revilla appealed to critics Wednesday.
Revilla, who serves as the co-chairperson of Lakas-CMD party that backed Marcos Jr.’s presidential bid, said the over 31 million votes the presumptive president received “is a clear expression of the Filipinos’ aspirations for Marcos’ leadership and call for unity.”
“This is the very reason why his administration must be given a chance,” Revilla said in a statement.
“It is very disheartening that while his term is yet to begin on noon of June 30, it seems there are some who are already working to ensure he fails, even if it means taking the down the country as well,” he added.
Revilla urged Filipinos to “rally behind our leader and our flag.”
“We are in a crossroads. This is a crucial time for the nation, so all hands must be on deck. Let’s stop shooting ourselves in the foot and instead rally behind our leader and our flag,” Revilla said.
Revilla likewise addressed the reported protest of some Filipinos in Melbourne in Australia who said that Marcos Jr. is not welcome there.
Marcos Jr. is currently in Australia for a “private trip” with family for a “much-needed rest and vacation,” according to his spokesperson Atty. Vic Rodriguez.
“Thirty-one million Filipinos in the Philippines and in the whole world cast their vote of trust and confidence in BBM (Bongbong Marcos). It seems their sense of patriotism, if their actions indeed spawned from it, is misguided,” Revilla said.
“They ended up embarrassing only themselves,” he added.
Based on the partial and unofficial results of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Marcos Jr. is poised to win the presidential race with over 31.1 million votes.
In distant second is Vice President Leni Robredo who garnered 14.8 million votes.
