Over 13 million people availed MRT-3 free rides — DOTr

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday said more than 13 million passengers have availed the free ride program of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) since March 28.

According to the DOTr in a statement, a total of 13,150,386 commuters availed of the program from March 28 to May 16.

The initial program was implemented from March 28 to April 30, with a total of 8,472,637 passengers recorded. This, however, was further increased by 4,677,749, as of May 16, when the MRT-3 extended its free rides until May 30.

Apart from the free ride extension, MRT-3 also started operating its four sets of 4-car CKD trains — increasing the operations of the railway system, which only had 18 to 20 3-car CKD train sets before.

“Ang isang train car o bagon ay kayang makapagsakay ng 394 na pasahero, o 1,186 na pasahero kada 3-car train set. Ang 4-car train set ay kayang makapagsakay ng 1,576 na pasahero,” said the DOTr.

(A train car or wagon can carry 394 passengers, or 1,186 passengers per 3-car train set. The 4-car train set can carry 1,576 passengers.)
