MANILA, Philippines — House Energy Committee Chair and Pampanga 2nd district Representative Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo lauded the efforts of the San Miguel Power Holdings Corp. (SMCGP), headed by SMC President Ramon Ang, for continuously helping address the country’s need for reliable and affordable power.
In 2021, SMCGP began its massive plan to invest in more renewable technology that will significantly help cut the country’s carbon footprint as well as help address the Philippines’ power security.
Arroyo, a long-time advocate of clean, safe, renewable, and affordable energy supply, welcomes this development, acknowledging SMC’s important role in nation building.
“There is a crucial need to diversify the country’s energy supply given the challenges in the energy sector. SMC’S diverse portfolio utilizing both renewable and traditional sources of energy will really help create more stable power supply, cleaner energy, and affordable electricity that will help improve the country’s business climate and eventually drive the economy forward,” Arroyo said.
Last February, SMCGP began its shift to cleaner energy by implementing its first battery project in Negros Occidental with Fluence, a leading energy storage technology. Battery storage systems are key players in ensuring the stability and sufficiency of power grids nationwide.
“I laud the private sector, especially SMC and Mr. Ramon Ang for investing so that we can finally move the Philippines towards cleaner, safer, affordable, and sustainable energy. 2022 na, wala na dapat brownout. Mura na dapat ang kuryente para guminhawa ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino,” Arroyo said.
