DOH cites lower daily average of COVID-19 cases
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported a continuous decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases nationwide.
“We have actually breached the numbers during the time before we had the Omicron situation,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a public briefing.
Vergeire said that the country only recorded a daily average of 146 new cases per day from May 6 to May 12.
It is lower than the daily average case count of 254 reported in December, before the country experienced the Omicron variant -triggered case surge.
As of Saturday, the country has logged a total of 3,687,748 COVID-19 cases, including 3,122 active infections, 3,624,171 recoveries and 60,455 deaths, according to DOH.
