Metro Manila wage board OKs ₱33 minimum wage increase

MANILA, Philippines – The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of Metro Manila has approved a ₱33 minimum wage increase in Metro Manila, the Department of Labor (DOLE) announced on Saturday.

The new minimum wage is now P570 for workers in the non-agriculture sector and PP533 in the agriculture sector.

“The increase considered the restoration of the purchasing power of minimum wage earners because of the escalating prices of basic goods, commodities, and petroleum products,” DOLE said in a statement on Saturday.

The labor department said the measure is expected to benefit around one million minimum wage earners in Metro Manila.

The last minimum wage adjustment for workers in private establishments in Metro Manila took effect on November 22, 2018, according to DOLE.
