MANILA, Philippines — Special elections will be held in 14 barangays in three Lanao del Sur municipalities after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared failure of elections in these areas.
Based on the excerpt from the minutes of the session of the Comelec held on May 10, a copy of which was shared to the media on Wednesday, the declaration of failure of elections covers:
- Barangay Ragayan in Butig town;
- Barangay Pindolonan in Binidayan town; and
- 12 barangays in Tubaran town (Tangcal, Datumanong, Guiarong, Baguiangun, Wago, Malaganding, Gadongan, Riantaran, Pagalamatan, Mindamunag, Paigoday-pimbataan, and Metadicop)
Special elections in the areas covered by the declaration of failure of elections will happen on May 15, 2022 “or on a date that the Honorable En Banc deems proper.”
The Comelec likewise approved the designation of personnel from the Philippine National Police as Special Board of Election Inspectors during the conduct of the special elections.
In Butig, armed men snatched away a vote-counting machine and ballots on election day, halting the balloting exercise in a precinct in Butig Central School.
