MANILA, Philippines — Presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is set to discuss the composition of his transition team once he secures victory, his spokesperson has said.

Atty. Vic Rodriguez said that Marcos Jr. will hold a meeting within the day to discuss the matter, as well as potential Cabinet members under his administration.

“We still have to meet this afternoon with President-elect Bongbong Marcos at upang ‘yung team ay maabisuhan o sino ba bumubuo ng magiging transition team and para mapunta na rin doon sa paghahanda patungkol dito sa incoming Bongbong Marcos administration,” he said in a press briefing.

(We still have to meet so that the team will be advised on who will be on the transition team and we can also discuss the preparations for the incoming Bongbong Marcos administration.)

As for the eyed Cabinet officials, Rodriguez said they have not discussed the matter yet, as they were advised by Marcos not to yet assume victory in the 2022 polls. The camp is also still busy with election work, particularly gathering election returns.

He, however, said that many have signified readiness to serve under the Marcos administration and the former senator have already thought of some names but not have yet finalized a list.

“But again we did not allow ourselves especially President-elect Bongbong to look beyond May 9 because that is his character, that is his person. He is unassuming, he doesn’t assume anything and he tries not to pangunahan ba ‘yung mga kaganapan. Kailangan sa kanya sakto at empunto yung aming ginagawa,” Rodriguez said.

(He tries not to preempt the events. It is vital to him that our actions are precise.)

He added that they have not yet received any information or communication from President Rodrigo Duterte for the transition of government.

“Hindi pwedeng ikaw lang ang may transition team samantalang yung maglilipat ng mga alituntunin ng pamahalaan ay wala pa ring nabubuong team. Kung meron man, walą pa kaming pormal at official na pakikipag-ugnayan. Again, it will all bring back to the character and nature of the person of president-elect Marcos. He is not one who assumes something until and unless it’s there, that’s the time that we will move,” he said.

(It’s not right that you will be the only one to have a transition team while the other party have not yet formed one. If they have, we have not yet received any formal or official communication.)

The Marcos-Duterte tandem has overwhelming leads of votes over their opponents with both of them getting 31 million votes.

Placing behind them is the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis Pangilinan, who got 14.8 million votes and 9.2 million votes, respectively.

This is according to the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) transparency server reflecting 98.24% of election returns.
