CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan—Former Malolos mayor Danilo Domingo defeated reelectionist Bulacan First District Rep. Antonio Sy-Alvarado in the local elections.

Commission on Elections officials on Tuesday proclaimed Domingo as the new first district representative after he garnered 202,712 votes. Alvarado obtained 140,798 votes.

Alvarado, the eldest son of Vice Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, was gunning for his third term in Congress.

In a statement, the outgoing lawmaker said the people have spoken, and he respects the public’s decision.

He said he was delighted to have served the people of the first district for six years.

Alvarado also congratulated Domingo and assured him of his support, adding that it was the time for unity as he called on his followers to support the new congressman.
