MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga – Voters in the provincial capital City of San Fernando elected on Monday (May 9) their first woman mayor — Dolores village chief and ex-officio Councilor Vilma Caluag.
The Commission on Elections on Tuesday proclaimed Caluag as the winning mayoral candidate after garnering 57,486 votes. She is the president of San Fernando’s Association of Barangay Captains.
Her closest rival, Board Member Rosve Henson, got 47,597 votes.
The other mayoral candidates were Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, former mayor and former congressman Oscar Rodriguez, and independent candidate Sandy Quiwa. They obtained 36,664, 19,512, and 324 votes, respectively.
In the vice mayoral race, Tiger Lagman was the declared the winner.
Caluag and Lagman were proclaimed as the election winners along with councilors-elect Brenz Gonzales, Alvin Mendoza, Ricky Hizon, Reggie David, Tina David-Lagman, Ato “Coach” Agustin, Angel Wijangco, Ayzel Macalino, Redentor Halili, and Rose Calimlim.
