BOHOL, Philippines–Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado of Bohol’s second district was proclaimed as the new governor of this province on Tuesday, May 10.

Aumentado got 449,335 votes, while incumbent Gov. Arthur Yap obtained 267,034 votes.

Lawyer Eddie Aba, provincial election officer, proclaimed Aumentado as governor at past 2 p. m.

Aumentado was accompanied by former Cabinet Secretary Leoncio “Jun” Evasco to the Capitol, where the proclamation took place.

Aumentado was welcomed with cheers from Capitol employees who had lined up to meet him. He also visited some offices before his proclamation.

“My inspiration was to bring change to Bohol. Rest assured, I will protect the money of the people. I will not do something that will anger you,” said Aumentado.

During the 17th and 18th Congress, Aumentado was the chair of the committee on science and technology.

In October 2019, Aumentado opposed the reported establishment of a coal power plant in Bohol through his House Bill 3710.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aumentado filed House Resolution No. 669 to temporarily ban China flights to and from the Bohol-Panglao International Airport.

Aumentado is the son of the late Erico Aumentado, who was also a governor.  /ra
