PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—Outgoing 3rd District Rep. Gil Acosta Jr. conceded to frontrunner Edward Hagedorn ahead of the proclamation as election counting drew to a close in Palawan province.

Acosta, in a statement issued Tuesday on Facebook, thanked his supporters and called for unity among the residents of the 3rd District—Puerto Princesa City and Aborlan town.

“The majority has spoken. It has been an honor serving you as your 3rd District Congressman. Congratulations to the Congressman-Elect, Edward Hagedorn! As I have said before, the elections are just one day. It is now time to unite and focus on the recovery of the 3rd District of Palawan,” read Acosta’s message.

Hagedorn is taking a commanding lead in the election returns with 80,325 votes against Acosta’s 71,986, from more than 90% of election returns counted as of Tuesday afternoon.
