MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––Two former mayors in Pampanga province managed to win against the incumbents, who defeated them in the 2019 elections.
Total unofficial counts from the Commission on Elections transparency server showed former Magalang town Mayor Malu Paras-Lacson winning the mayoral race against Mayor Romy Pecson.
Results from the 118 clustered precincts (100%) as of 10:17 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, showed Lacson obtaining 38,560 votes, while Pecson got 29,742.
In 2019, then-incumbent Mayor Lacson lost to Pecson by only 27 votes. Lacson garnered 27,139 votes, while Pecson got 27,166.
In Santo Tomas town, former Mayor John Sambo defeated incumbent Mayor Gloria “Ninang” Ronquillo based on the transmitted unofficial election returns from 48 clustered precincts (100%) as of 10:17 a.m. on Tuesday.
Sambo got 15,126 votes, while Roquillo obtained 13,404.
In 2019, mayor Sambo lost to Ronquillo by a very slim margin. Ronquillo, an incumbent vice mayor at the time, got 11,308 votes, while Sambo garnered only 11,137.
