NAGA CITY—Several youth groups in this city, including the Jovenes Anakbayan, will holding street protests Tuesday afternoon against the possible victory of Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
The partial unofficial results show Marcos Jr. and Duterte leading the presidential and vice-presidential races with a large margin.
“The people reject the Marcos Jr.-Sara Duterte tandem in the 2022 polls. This is the people continuously taking a stand against corruption and tyranny,” Khryss Arañas, chairperson of Jovenes Anakbayan Naga City, told the Inquirer in an interview Tuesday.
Arañas said the protest was also to condemn the questionable process of the Commission on Elections in the vote counting.
“The process of the Comelec is questionable. There were a lot of glitches, a lot of anomalies, but the election results came out fast,” he said.
The street protests will be held at 3 p.m. today, Tuesday, at Plaza Rizal in this city.
A Thanksgiving Mass will also be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Cathedral here. After the Mass, Vice President Leni Robredo will speak to her supporters at the Cathedral dome.
Comelec’s partial and unofficial count show that Marcos Jr. defeated Robredo by more than 10 million votes. But supporters of Robredo claim that the elections were rigged due to anomalies observed at polling precincts and machine glitches.
