In Central Luzon, only Ninoy hometown in Tarlac delivers victory for Robredo

CONCEPCION, Tarlac—Only this hometown of the late Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino did Vice President Leni Robredo win over her main rival, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., unofficial data from the Commission on Elections’ transparency server showed.

With 153 of the 158 clustered precincts, or about 97 percent of the election returns transmitted as of 7:47 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, Robredo got 48,825 votes against Marcos’ 33,548.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso got 3,520, Manny Pacquiao garnered 1,737, and Sen. Ping Lacson received 821 votes.

In the vice-presidential race, Sen. Tito Sotto obtained the highest number of votes at 29,875, followed by Sarah Duterte with 27,538, and Kiko Pangilinan with 25,372.

Marcos won in Tarlac province with 425,599 votes against Robredo’s 289,600, with 99.65 percent of the election returns transmitted as of 8:02 a.m. on Tuesday.

Tarlac is the only Central Luzon province where Robredo defeated Marcos in the 2016 vice presidential race. She got 243,756 votes, while Marcos received 214,166.

In nearby Pampanga province, where Robredo gathered about 220,000 supporters in her campaign rally last month, Marcos was also winning the presidential race based on the 96.7 percent of the province’s election returns as of 8:17 a.m. on Tuesday. Marcos got 731,969 votes against Robredo’s only 312,852.

Marcos was winning even in the highly urbanized Angeles City with 97,692 votes against Robredo’s 42,930 based on the 91.28 percent of election returns transmitted.
