MANILA, Philippines – The fastest-ever transmission of election returns was achieved this year since the country adopted automated voting, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner George Garcia said on Tuesday.
Data shared by Comelec Commissioner George Garcia showed that more than 80,000 vote counting machines (VCMs) have transmitted election returns as of 11:00 pm on Monday.
In comparison, only more than 70,000 VCMs had transmitted election returns in 2016 and 2019 elections within the same time period.
The number of VCMs which transmitted election returns during 2010 and 2013 elections within the same timeframe had only reached the 50,000 mark.
Garcia, when asked to confirm if transmission of the result this election is the fastest so far, responded: “Yes, I think so.”
“It’s because of the improved and upgraded equipment and system,” he added.
So far, the Comelec transparency server has transmitted 95 percent of partial, unofficial results of elections returns as of 6:17 am.
Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. still leads the presidential race with 30,303,899 votes, followed by Vice President Leni Robredo with 14,431,591 votes.
