Eight fires so far in March, says Comar
“EVERYDAY is a fire prevention day,” Cebu City Fire Marshal Aderson Comar told reporters, stressing the need to be vigilant and prepared for accidents.
He said there were five “working fires” in Cebu City so far in March, which had firefighters rush to the scene to respond, and three fire alarms, where flames were already put out by residents before fire trucks arrived.
Comar pegged the property damage in Pardo at P300,000 for 22 houses totally burned and three partly damaged. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
About 40 families were displaced and and set up tents at the Pardo cemetery for shelter, said Poblacion Pardo captain Fermin Dasmariñas. The barangay council was set to meet last night to declare a state of calamity. City social workers went to the site to distribute packed meals.
