Pagasa: Warm week seen ahead for Cebu

CEBU’s temperature reached 30 degrees Celsius yesterday and is expected to rise  slightly for the rest of the week, the Mactan office of the state weather bureau Pagasa said.

Pagasa Mactan weather analyst Al Alcazar said they project a rise to 33 to 35 degrees  in temperature for next month and May.

“Expect an increase in  temperature if there will be no rain,” he said.

He said there is no visible Low Pressure Area (LPA) or typhoon so far based on their forecasts.

Alcazar said Cebu will experience between 31-32 degrees Celsius this week.

Alcazar said the La Niña phenomenon weakened as evidenced by the lack of cloud formation.

But he said Cebuanos can expect some comfort from the easterly wind which will bring  cold air along with the summer heat.

With the summer season in full swing, the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) advised  the public to minimize sun exposure to avoid heat stroke.

Dr. Expedito Medalla, DOH-7 Health and Emergency Management Staff (HEMS) coordinator, said prolonged exposure to heat can cause dizziness and heat stroke.

“One should drink plenty of fluids to avoid being  dehydrated and to avoid heat stroke,” Medalla told Cebu Daily News.

He said infants, the elderly, athletes and outdoor workers are the most vulnerable to heat strokes.

Medalla said people should also bring an umbrella and wear caps and comfortable clothes to stay cool.

Sunscreen should be regularly used to avoid sunburn.
