MANILA, Philippines — Detained Senator Leila de Lima, who is running for reelection for the May 8 elections has cast her vote in Parañaque City on Monday.
The senator cast her vote at the St. Rita College in Sucat, Parañaque City at around 10:20 a.m., while escorted by several policemen.
De Lima, who had been detained since February 24, 2017, over what she called “trumped-up charges,” is seeking a return to the senatorial seat in May 9 elections under the senate slate of presidential hopeful Vice President Lenin Robredo and vice presidential candidate Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
She earlier wrote to Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra to drop the filed charges against her following the retraction of former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Rafael Ragos.
Ragos retracted his testimony after self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa recanted his own on April 29.
