PH logs 1,124 new COVID cases from May 2 to May 8 — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 1,124 cases of COVID-19 were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) from May 2 to May 8, with 14 new cases classified as either severe or critical.

According to the DOH’s weekly report on Monday, this is 20 percent lower than the total cases recorded the week before (April 25 to May 1) at 1,399 COVID-19 cases translating to an average of 161 cases per day, lower than the previous week’s which was at 200 average cases.

Meanwhile, 42 more deaths were verified in the same period — only one of which occurred in the month of May, the rest were backlogs from previous months.

The DOH report also showed that the healthcare utilization rate decreased to 15.4 percent from the previous week’s 16.3. ICU-bed utilization, however, increased from 16.1 percent to 16.8 percent.

DOH also reported that the total number of individuals who continue to suffer severe and critical symptoms currently sit at 611, still lower than the previous week’s 723.

In terms of vaccination progress, fully-vaccinated individuals are now at 68,437,798 (76.04 percent of the target population) after 526,334 additional individuals were vaccinated in the past week.

Individuals with booster shots number 13,454,867 after 223,222 additional individuals were inoculated in the same period.

Meanwhile, based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker on its website, total cases are currently at 3,687,018 as of May 8, with active cases sitting at 4,106, recoveries at 3,622,573, and 60,439 deaths.
