MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio insisted on Monday that she will be a “loyal” vice president to running mate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. should they both got elected during the 2022 national and local elections.
Duterte-Carpio made the remark after casting her vote at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School in Davao City.
“Unang-una po, I will be a vice president na magtra-trabaho para sa ating Pilipinas, ‘yan po ang kampanya natin sa lahat, we seek out the support of all Filipinos in campaigning na maging matapat tayo sa ating komunidad, sa ating bayan, sa ating lungsod,” Duterte-Carpio said in an ambush interview.
(First of all, I will be a vice president who will work for the Philippines. That’s our campaign for everyone. We seek out the support of all Filipinos in campaigning that we be truthful for our community and cities.)
“And of course, we will be a supportive and loyal vice president to Apo BBM (Bongbong Marcos) in the event he wins,” she added.
Duterte-Carpio likewise said she is ready to work with non-allies.
“Kung hindi tayo mabigyan ng Cabinet position, we already prepared peace building activities and activities for child protection particularly sa pagkampanya sa ating mga eskwelahan sa ating mga kabataan,” Duterte-Carpio said.
(If we are not given a Cabinet post, we already prepared peace building activities and activities for child protection.)
In the same interview, Duterte-Carpio disclosed that she has not spoken to her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, who will also vote in the same school. The elder Duterte was invited during the miting de avance of the Uniteam in Parañaque on May 8 but he did not show up.
However, she thanked the President for supporting her vice presidential bid.
Based on the latest Pulse Asia survey conducted from April 16 to 21, Duterte-Carpio leads the vice presidential survey with 55 percent, followed by Senate President Vicente Sotto III at 18 percent and Senator Francis Pangilinan who garnered 16 percent.
