MANILA, Philippines — Former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Benhur Abalos, who is now the campaign manager of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.,  had his phone number hacked.

“My globe cellphone number has been hacked this morning. It has been sending out unscrupulous messages. Went to Globe office this afternoon to complain & had the number immediately suspended. Please ignore messages that you get from that number. Thank you,” he said on social media on Sunday.

Benhur’s wife, Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos, shared to INQUIRER.net a message from the service provider.

The service provider, however, said that Abalos did not send messages, but has received messages from certain numbers.

“As checked, complainant (cell phone number) did not send SMS to those numbers provided. We’ve validated also that complainant (cell phone number) received only SMS from them,” the service provider said.

“It is possible that those numbers that sent messages to the complainant were victims of illegal broadcaster devices that used the complainants number as the sending number,” it added.
