Long lines of voters, long wait observed in Western Visayas on election day

ILOILO CITY—Long lines of voters in polling precincts have been observed early Monday in many areas in Western Visayas, indicating a large turnout in the national and local elections.

Voters were lining up by the time precincts opened at 6 a.m.

But some have complained of the long wait.

A voter in Sigma town in Capiz was lining up outside the precinct at 6:30 a.m. She was the 47th in the line, but she still had not voted as of 9:45 a.m.

The poll watchdog Kontra Daya in Western Visayas said they received reports of problems with vote-counting machines (VCMs), including paper jams and unrecognizable ballots.

“We also received reports that poll watchers identified with Marcos-Duterte-Carpio (tandem) are volunteering to feed ballots to the vote- counting machines, which is prohibited,” Fr. Marco Sulayao, Kontra Daya Western Visayas spokesperson, said.
