Teacher shot dead in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY – Himamaylan, Negros Occidental Mayor Raymund Tongson has condemned the killing of a teacher who was shot and killed Sunday night.

Tongson, in a statement, ordered the police  to exhaust all efforts to arrest the killers of Mercy Besa Miguel of Barangay Caradioan, Himamaylan.

“We  ask all individuals or groups on social media to stop linking the incident to politics out of respect for the  Besa and  Miguel family who are facing a sad tragedy,” he said.

Police said Miguel was on a motorcycle driven by her husband and were on their way home at around 8 p.m.

The couple was later forced to step off the motorcycle to remove the rocks that blocked their path at Crossing Calasa.

An assassin later emerged from a grassy area and shot the teacher.

She was rushed to the  Valeriano M. Gatuslao  Memorial District  Hospital in Himamaylan  but was pronounced dead on arrival.
