PARANAQUE CITY, Philippines —A united Philippines is coming “very, very soon”, vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Saturday as she capped off her campaign.
Duterte-Carpio, together with running mate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., has pushed with her campaign using “unity” as her main platform.
The tandem even dubbed themselves, including its senatorial slate, as the “UniTeam.”
“Naramdaman namin ang init ng inyong pagtanggap sa amin, higit pa diyan, napatunayan namin na malapit na at sama-sama tayong babangon bilang isang nagkakaisang bayan,” Duterte-Carpio said during the UniTeam miting de avance in Paranaque City.
“UniTeam, we have proven that a united Philippines is coming very very soon. Sama-samang nagkaisa, nakikipaglaban, bumabangon para sa inyong lahat,” she added.
Duterte-Carpio also urged their supporters to shun negative comments from opposing camps.
“Alam niyo natutunan ko sa ating kampanya, na huwag na pumatol. Kaya nga may burger tayo. Dahil burger kayong lahat, at silang lahat sa amin ni Bongbong Marcos,” Duterte-Carpio said.
Duterte-Carpio was referring to an earlier call she made, urging her supporters to ignore those who want to “cancel” them for backing her and Marcos Jr.
Back in March, Duterte-Carpio said: “Kapag kayo po ay binato ng cancel, batuhin niyo po ng [burger]. Burger ng UniTeam ni Marcos-Duterte,” inspired by a popular Filipino saying, “Kapag binato ka ng bato, batuhin mo ng tinapay”, which means to not repay a bad deed with another bad deed.
Ending her speech in Paranaque City, Duterte-Carpio urged their supporters to show their united vote for the UniTeam.
“Sa Lunes, sa araw ng halalan, ipakita natin ang nagkakaisang boto ninyo para sa buong UniTeam. Mga kababayan, mula sa aming puso, para sa Diyos, para sa bayan, para sa ating mga pamilya, mahalin natin ang Pilipinas,” Duterte-Carpio said.
Organizers of the Marcos-Duterte miting de avance estimate that over one million supporters attended the Paranaque event.
