Comelec: Over 470,000 have cast their votes overseas

MANILA, Philippines— The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday reported that 27.84 percent or 472,559 of 1,697,215 registered voters overseas have so far cast their vote for this year’s elections.

A total of  181,399 have so far voted in the Middle East and Africa; 170,752 in the Asia-Pacific region, 72,323 in North and South America and 48,084 in Europe, according to Comelec.

The Comelec previously said that it is expecting over 580,000 overseas voters to participate in the elections.

The overseas voting period is from April 10 to May 9.

Meanwhile, around 60,000 or 75 percent of over 84,000 registered local absentee voters have also already voted, according to the Comelec.

 A total of 32,322 local absentee voters from the Philippine National Police have already  voted, along with 20,219 from the Philippine Army; 2,756 from the Philippine Air Force, 1,653 from the Department of Education and 868 members of the media.
