Condes guns for WBC Silver crown June 24
FORMER IBF minimumweight champion Florante Condes will travel to Thailand to fight unbeaten hometown boy Wanheng Menayothin (16W-0L, 4 KOs) for the WBC Silver minimum weight title in Bangkok on June 24.
The 31-year-old Condes (25W-5L-1D, 21 KOs) fought twice in Cebu last year at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in fight cards promoted by ALA Promotions. He beat Sofyan Effendi of Indonesia by unanimous decision last August 2010 then stopped Japanese Kenichi Horikawa in seven rounds three months later.
Condes will not be fighting under the ALA banner in his latest overseas outing.
He became world champion in 2007 when he beat IBF minimumweight champ Muhamad Rachman of Indonesia by split decision in Jakarta. His reign was short-lived as he lost in his first defense to Raul Garcia of Mexico also by a split verdict in a fight held in Baja California.
The 25-year-old Menayothin has beaten many Filipino boxers like former world title challenger Arden Diale, Ronelle Ferreras and Jayson Rotoni.
The WBC Silver title was created to to give value to many fights that cannot be for a WBC world title but are bouts of great importance.
