Dapudong to fight for WBA world crown vs Mexico’s Marquez July 2

EDRIN “The Sting” Dapudong of the Braveheart Boxing Stable of North Cotabato will challenge WBA world flyweight champion Herman “Little Tyson” Marquez of Mexico in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico on July 2.

Dapudong fought in the undercard of the Pinoy Pride 6 last June 11 and stopped unbeaten Benja Loemoli of Indonesia in four rounds.

This will be the first title defense of Marquez (30W-2L, 23 KOs) who snatched the WBA flyweight world title by 11th round TKO over Luis “El Nica” Concepcion (22-2, 17 KOs) last April 2 in Panama. Marquez is no stranger to Filipino boxing fans having lost to Richie Mepranum and Nonito Donaire Jr. last year.

Dapudong (23W-3L, 13 KOs) has fought in Mexico twice last year with a one win, one loss record. He won the WBC Silver flyweight title with a stunning first round knockout over Jesus Jimenez. He returned to Mexico after three months and lost his title to Wilbert Uicab by unanimous decision.

Dapudong is now fighting under the banner of ALA Promotions. He has also held the WBO Asia-Pacific minimumweight and WBO Oriental junior flyweight titles. Correspondent Rene Bonsubre jr.
