MANILA, Philippines — A group of health workers have condemned once again anti-insurgency task force spokesperson Lorraine Badoy after she linked them anew to the armed communist movement.

The Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) urged the Office of the Ombudsman and the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) to expedite the complaints they earlier filed against her for red-tagging them.

Their calls come after Badoy on May 1, Labor Day, claimed that the AHW was a front of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

“The Alliance of Health Workers union-members condemn in its strongest term the NTF-ELCAC Spokesperson Lorraine Badoy’s unfounded, malicious and injudicious statement by accusing anew that AHW is a front organization of the CPP-NPA-NDF,” the group said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

The AHW insisted that Badoy’s red-tagging is violative of Republic Act 7305 or the Magna Carta of Public Health Workers, RA 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, as well as Executive Order 180.

“Usec Badoy is indeed doing an unlawful act as she interfered and coerced the union members of AHW to disaffiliate from the organization,” it said.

“Once again, AHW firmly stands that it is not a member of any terrorist organization and does not advocate and promote terrorism nor aims to sabotage and overthrow the government, contrary to the speculations and false accusations of Badoy,” the group added.

Last month, Badoy accused AHW of being one of the organizations created by the CPP-NPA-NDF to “infiltrate” the government in 2021.

“Thus, AHW is sincerely asking the (Ombudsman) and the PRC to expedite the issuance of the resolution on the case against Usec  Badoy in order to stop her from spreading more lies and issuing malicious statements against AHW,” the group said.

The AHW then called on the Department of Health as well as President Rodrigo Duterte to provide protection to health workers against any form of violence, harassment, intimidation and suppression of health workers’ rights.
