MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio maintains her lead in the latest Pulse Asia pre-election survey while Senator Francis Pangilinan’s numbers are catching up to Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
Based on the survey conducted from April 16 to 21 and released on Monday, Duterte-Carpio garnered a 55-percent voter preference.
This is one percentage point lower than the previous survey held in March. Nevertheless, Duterte-Carpio remains the vice presidential front-runner in the Pulse Asia polls.
She is followed by Sotto, whose voter preference dropped to 18 percent. In Pulse Asia’s March survey, the Senate President secured 20 percent.
Voters who picked Pangilinan as their vice president, meanwhile, increased to 16 percent from his previous 15 percent.
Dr. Willie Ong, for his part, got a three-percent voter preference while, one percent of the survey respondents said they will choose Manny Lopez as their vice president.
House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza, Senator Manny Pacquiao’s vice presidential running mate, lagged behind with a 0.5 percent voter preference.
Atienza is closely followed by Walden Bello at 0.4 percent, Carlos Serapio with 0.3 percent and Rizalito David at 0.1 percent.
By location
Duterte-Carpio’s survey numbers based on location also decreased, except in Visayas, but are still the highest among other vice presidential candidates.
In the National Capital Region (NCR), she secured a 51-percent voter preference, 46 percent in Balance Luzon, 50 percent in Visayas and 80 percent in Mindanao.
Sotto, meanwhile, got 21 percent in NCR and 25 percent in Balance Luzon. He also got a 14-percent preference in Visayas and six percent in Mindanao.
These numbers, except in Balance Luzon, are lower than his voter preference in the previous pre-election survey in March.
For Pangilinan, however, his voter preference in NCR increased to 15 percent from his previous seven percent. In Visayas, his voter preference climbed to 29 percent from 19 percent in the previous survey.
His voter preference in Mindanao also saw an increase of two percentage points from six percent in March to eight percent in April.
His number in Balance Luzon, however, dropped to 15 percent from his previous 21 percent.
