MANILA, Philippines — Vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Monday admitted that she may not be the “best, brightest and most brilliant” contender for the position, but said she “will move mountains” to make things happen.
“I am not the best, I’m not the brightest, I’m not the most brilliant candidate out there pero kung meron kang ipapagawa sa akin, I will move mountains para ma-deliver yan sa iyo,” Duterte-Carpio said.
(I am not the best, I’m not the brightest, I’m not the most brilliant candidate out there, but if you will ask something of me, I will move mountains to deliver that.)
“I would not say na I would be the best vice president that our country will ever have, we will let history be the judge of that. Pero yung nasa akin po talaga—at yung lagi kong sinasabi na nasa ating lahat—is yung tibay ng puso ko as a Filipino. Matibay talaga ang puso ko,” Duterte-Carpio said in an interview on Net25.
(I would not say that I would be the best vice president that our country will ever have, we will let history be the judge of that. But what I possess—and what I have repeatedly said the Filipino people also possess—is the strong heart of a Filipino.)
Duterte-Carpio also recalled her campaign experiences, from the “sweetest” to the “hardest” moments.
She admitted struggling during the first month of the campaign due to numerous engagements but said she got used to it as the weeks went by.
“Sa February po, mahirap po talaga. Natutulog ako na pagod, paggising ko, pagod pa rin ako but because Filipinos are resilient so we always adapt to the prevailing circumstances, nung March, nitong April, OK na. Hinahanap na namin kung saan yung lugar kung saan mangangampanya,” she said.
(Back in February, it was really hard. I slept tired and woke up still tired, but because Filipinos are resilient, we always adapt to the prevailing circumstances, in March and April, I was OK. I was already more eager to campaign.)
Meanwhile, she said gaining more “friends” during the campaign is what she considers as one of the “sweetest” experiences during the past months.
One of the campaign’s toughest moments, Duterte-Carpio shard, is being away from her three children.
