MANILA, Philippines—Over 1,500 students and alumni of the University of the Philippines College of Engineering are supporting the candidacies of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, for president, and vice president, respectively.

“We stand with Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan because they are the leaders we have been looking for,” the UP Engineering alumni and students said in a statement on Saturday.

The group said they are supporting the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem because they think the tandem has a “genuine desire to serve, represent, and deliver the needs of the people.”

“We desire to have a government with servant leaders at the helm. We seek competent leaders who will create policies and programs driven by facts and practical knowledge from all sectors of society, especially the marginalized, and will prioritize nation building over self interest,” they added.

The group is now among some colleges and organizations in the UP System who are openly supporting the candidacy of Robredo.

It can be recalled that a total of 1,300 UP College of Law students and alumni have also expressed support for Robredo’s presidential bid.
