MANILA. Philippines — Local and international tourists can now utilize a much-improved road going around the world-famous Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan, with the improvement of the 21.643-kilometer Improvement/Rehabilitation of Boracay Circumferential Road project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“Tourists, both foreign and local can now enjoy faster and more comfortable access to various areas in Boracay Island with the improved Boracay Circumferential Road. I want to thank the residents of the island for their patience with this project. The project aims to elevate Boracay into a world-class destination, both in terms of natural beauty and infrastructure,” Villar said.

The improvement of this project, with total funding of P1.94 billion, will reduce travel time from the current one hour and 30 minutes to just 40-45 minutes from Ilig-Iligan Beach in Brgy. Yapak in the northeast part of Boracay to Cagban Port in Brgy. Manoc-Manoc in the island’s southern tip.

“This is part of the Duterte administration’s long-term program to rehabilitate world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province. Masaya po akong nasilayan ko ang umpisa hanggang sa pagtatapos ng proyektong ito,” Villar added.

It was December 2020 when the 8.73-km main road improvements under Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Boracay circumferential road were completed.

Phase 1 covered three sections with a road length of 4.47 kilometers, involves the improvement of the road from Cagban Port to Hue Hotel, Hue Hotel to Elizalde, and Elizalde to Bulabog Dramatic Road; Phase 2 covered 3.362-km of the road from Elizalde to Ambassador Hotel, Ambassador Hotel to City Mall Boracay, and from Tambisaan Port to Crossing Rotunda; and Phase 3 covered 1.4-kilometer portion of the total 21.6-kilometer Boracay Circumferential Road connects Cagban port to junction of Tambisaan port in Brgy. Manoc-Manoc, Boracay Island, which are two entry/exit points to the island.

“Patuloy lamang po akong naka alalay sa proyektong ito. I will ensure to push for the continuation and completion of this project, tuloy-tuloy lang ang pagsasagawa natin ng mga proyektong makakatulong na makakapagpalago ng ekonomiya at turismo ng bansa,” Villar ended.

This project also involved the construction of a drainage system, sidewalk with paving blocks, installation of street lights, sprigging, and application of thermoplastic pavement markings.
