A JEEPNEY driver was thrown in jail after he allegedly tried to run over a traffic enforcer who apprehended him for a traffic violation in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Neil Segundino was arrested after a brief chase by the police.
Segundino drives a jeepney plying the Liloan-Mandaue route and lives in barangay Basak, Mandaue.
Ringo Penados, 30, member of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), said he apprehended Segundino last Thursday night for stopping in a “no stopping zone.”
The jeepney driver refused to hand over his driver’s license and instead drove on to the Mandaue Reclamation Area.
The traffic enforcer was able to board the jeepney.
Penados called for backup from fellow traffic enforcers who blocked the jeepney at the reclamation area.
Penados went to the driver’s side and again demanded for Segundino’s driver’s license.
The traffic enforcer said Segundino drove the jeepney forward and tried to hit him.
Penados said he hung on to the side mirror of the jeepney to avoid getting hit, lost his grip and fell on the concrete pavement.
A police patrol saw the commotion and chased the jeepney.
Segundino later told police that he didn’t have his driver’s license with him. He denied trying to hit Penados. He said he suddenly moved forward because the traffic light had turned green.
