TAGAYTAY CITY, Philippines — Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula will be made Cardinal-Priest of a parish in Rome, Italy, the church said in an announcement Friday.
In a Facebook post, the Parrocchia San Vigilio said that Advincula will assume the role on Saturday, April 30.
“(On) Saturday 30 April, from 6:45 pm, we will broadcast live streaming on this Facebook page the Solemn Possession of the Titular of San Vigilio of His Eminence Jose Fuerte Cardinal ADVINCULA,” the parish said in its post, translated from Italian.
It is unclear if Advincula would relinquish his duties in the country, but titular roles in Roman churches are often given to cardinals who continue to stay in their areas of assignment.
Advincula is the current archbishop of Manila, succeeding Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle who was called by Pope Francis to be the prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples which is based in the Vatican.
He was named Manila Archbishop in March 2021, months after he was designated cardinal along with several other bishops.
