LUCENA CITY––Police arrested two pickpockets who allegedly stole a mobile phone during Vice President Leni Robredo’s grand rally on Thursday, April 28, in this city.

Lt. Colonel Reynaldo Reyes, Lucena police chief, reported Friday that Mary Jane Soriano, 42, and Rose Marie Suma, 31, took the mobile phone from the right pocket of Anna Chelsea Pabellano, 24, while the latter was watching the rally at the city government complex in Barangay Silangang Mayao.

Investigators said the two suspects passed the cellular phone, worth P67,000, to another accomplice identified as Riza Monteverde, who escaped.

Soriano and Suma were arrested after event marshalls and policemen deployed in the event area identified them.

Reyes, citing figures from the crowd management unit, said the number of rally attendees reached 80,000 to 90,000.

The event was secured by 75 policemen and 200 village watchmen.

Police said the two suspects were detained and were facing corresponding charges.
