MANILA, Philippines — Presidential candidate Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso couldn’t help but react to the recent tension between supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The supporters of both camps, wearing their candidates’ colors, were engaged in a shouting match in a mall in Makati City recently.
Moreno said this only proved that the conflict between “reds” and “yellows/pinks” would never stop, alluding to the respective campaign colors of Marcos and Robredo, respectively.
“Tulad nga ng nasabi ko, hindi titigil ang awayan at higantihan ng pula at dilaw/pink. Hindi po tayo papanatag at uunlad,” Moreno said in a Facebook post.
(Just like what I’ve said, the conflict and retaliation between the reds and yellow/pink would never stop. We won’t have peace of mind and prosperity.)
Moreno has pegged himself anew as an alternative for voters wanting to have a “peace of mind,” and who have tired of the longstanding feud between two families — the Marcoses and the Aquinos — whose politics and alliances have shaped Philippine politics for so long.
“Panahon na, mga kababayan, tuldukan na natin ang away nila sa Mayo 9. Iba naman! Walang awayan, walang higantihan. Kapakinabangan naman ng tao ang mauuna,” he further said.
(It’s now time, my kababayans, to put a stop to their fight come May 9. Give chance to others! No conflict, no retaliation. The people’s well-being should come first.)
He even warned that a coup d’état will be likely should either of the “red” or “yellow” candidates win in the May 9 polls.
