Comelec asks Duterte to declare May 9 a special non-working holiday

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec), through a resolution, is requesting President Rodrigo Duterte to declare the national elections on May 9 as a special non-working holiday.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Comelec chairman Saidamen Pangarungan announced that the en banc has signed Resolution No. 10784 containing the commission’s request to the President.

“We signed Resolution No. 10784 requesting President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to declare May 9, 2022 as a special non-working holiday all throughout the country in connection with the national and local elections,” Pangarungan said.

Meanwhile, local absentee voting began on Wednesday for soldiers, police officers, government personnel, and members of the media who will not be able to cast their votes on May 9.

The local absentee voting will run until Friday, April 29.
