Daza in-law told to answer homicide rap

/ 01:30 AM March 10, 2012

The son-in-law of former Quezon City Representative Nanette Castelo-Daza has been told to answer the charges filed against him for the shooting of Daza’s former boyfriend, Noel Orate Sr., on February 10.

Assistant City Prosecutor Leonardo Raul Gonzales gave Romeo Allan Robes, a Bulacan provincial board member, until next week, or on March 13, to file his counter-affidavit to the allegations.

Robes was also required to appear on that day at 10 a.m. during the preliminary investigation of the case for his alleged involvement in Orate’s death.

In Friday’s preliminary hearing, the lawyer of the Orate family told Gonzales about a memorandum from Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on a separate probe by the National Bureau of Investigation.

Orate was shot inside the Daza home in Barangay (village) Teachers Village West on February 10. Robes, Daza’s son-in-law, is now facing homicide charges.

Orate’s children have claimed their father was murdered as he was shot five times.

The Daza camp, on the other hand, said Robes only acted in self-defense as Orate allegedly threatened their family.
