MANILA, Philippines — The national council of the Alpha Kappa Rho (AKRHO), the fraternity of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno who is running for president, stressed on Saturday that it remains nonpartisan despite some of its members endorsing the candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo.
In a statement, AKRHO convenors from Caraga said Robredo’s “qualification, character, and record of public service” proves her ability to become the next president.
The officials said they “dream and aspire to have an honest government that will serve the people without corruption and will serve our fellow Filipinos well.”
“We want a government that is free from corruption and that will serve our fellow Filipinos well with ability and efficiency. We want a government that will help meet the needs of the people quickly and efficiently,” they said.
But in a separate statement, AKRHO National Council Grand Skeptron Aldwin Tagart Alvez said the fraternity maintains its non-partisanship.
“We will continue to give our members the freedom to choose their own candidates as long as they are not using the name of our fraternity. Selecting a leader is a personal decision for each member and must therefore be respected by all,” he said in a memorandum.
“The National Council will respect every member of AKRHO and will always be the source of information that will benefit every member in the selection of their candidates,” Alvez added.
