MANILA, Philippines — The Archdiocese of Manila has urged the faithful to pray the rosary for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for the upcoming elections.
Fr. Carmelo Arada, in a circular dated April 22 but was only furnished to the media on Saturday, said the Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province of Manila requests all Catholics to pray the rosary from April 30 to May 9, or until the day of elections.
“Our bishops enjoin us that we pray the rosary as families and communities from 30 April to 9 May as we lift up to the Lord and entrust to the maternal intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary the forthcoming elections,” the circular read.
The Ecclesiastical Province of Manila has published a pastoral letter entitled “Narito ang inyong Ina,” which will be read during the masses on Saturday evening and Sunday.
The pastoral letter noted that the Blessed Virgin Mary has helped the country throughout history, after Filipinos prayed the rosary to invoke maternal intercession.
The EDSA People Power Revolution was also particularly mentioned.
The letter read: “Sino ang makakalimot sa ating EDSA People Power kung saan hinarap ng mga mananampalataya na nagdarasal ng rosaryo ang mga tangke at sundalo?”
(Who could forget the EDSA People Power where the faithful faced soldiers and tanks while praying the rosary?)
“Lapitan nating muli ang ating Mahal na Ina. At hilingin din natin sa kanya na tulungan tayong iboto ang mga napupusuan ni Hesus para sa atin,” the letter further read.
(Let’s again seek the help of our Beloved Mother. Let’s hope that she helps us choose candidates that Jesus would love for us.)
