MANILA, Philippines — Instead of calling on one another to withdraw from this year’s election, presidential aspirant Leody de Guzman on Friday dared his fellow candidates to unite “on the ground” in disputing the claims made by Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and preventing his win in the race to Malacañang.

De Guzman maintained that the call by his fellow candidate Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso to Vice President Leni Robredo to back out from the presidential race was “foul” and “wrong.”

“I challenge all of them for us to unite. Let’s not call one another to withdraw, that’s just foul,” he told reporters during a press forum in Quezon City.

The labor leader pointed out that uniting all candidates together, except for Marcos Jr., should explain to the public the truth behind the son and namesake of the late dictator’s remarks that his father’s dictatorship was the “golden years” of the country.

“Let’s explain to the people the truth and if they will be convinced, it’s up to them on who among us they will vote for in the election,” De Guzman stressed.

Referencing a basketball jargon, he believes that such an effort of uniting against Marcos Jr. can be done even with the “last two minutes” before game time.

“My only call here is that we should unite on the ground. If we see that [Marcos Jr.] is the enemy here, we should unite down to the barangay level in our campaign to enlighten the public what the truth is,” De Guzman said.
