MANILA, Philippines — Policymakers should adapt to rapid technological advancements, which encourage a “work-from-anywhere” setup that will allow businesses to save on energy and increase productivity.
Ang Probinsyano Rep. Ronnie Ong sought more incentives for companies allowing off-site work arrangements, instead of cutting tax perks if employees do not physically report for work.
He said that “work-from-anywhere” was a more appropriate term than “work-from-home” for those who render services outside of office spaces, which may not necessarily be at home.
“Let us stop living in the antiquities and embrace the gift of technology, which can finally allow us to work freely and productively. The performance of our workforce should now be measured not by bundy clocks, but the quality and quantity of our services and our products,” Ong said in a statement.
The lawmaker vowed to push for legislation amending Republic Act No. 11165, or the 2018 Telecommuting Act, which institutionalized alternative work arrangements for those in the private sector.
