Average daily COVID-19 cases in Ilocos region drop to two

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — The average number of COVID-19 cases in the Ilocos region dropped to two between April 10 and 16, the latest data from the regional Department of Health (DOH) showed on Monday, April 18.

The figure was 32 percent lower than the cases reported from April 3-9, the DOH said.

Last week, at least 17 new COVID-19 cases were recorded by the regional DOH, with eight deaths due to COVID-19 verified during the same period.

At least 29 patients, or 12 percent of the total COVID-19 admissions, were tagged as severe and critical, the latest data from the DOH showed.

The DOH added that the non-ICU (intensive care unit) utilization was at 14 percent, or 216 out of 1,566 beds currently in use. At least 13 percent, or 30 of the 235 ICU beds, had been occupied

The health agency had also reported that a total of 81 percent of its target of over 4.3 million individuals had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

During the Lenten break, healthcare workers continued their vaccine rollout, with tents set up outside churches and tourist places across the region as vaccination sites.

The vaccination drive continued during the long break to hasten the administration of booster shots, the DOH said.

As of April 16, at least 700,840 individuals in the region had received their booster shots against the disease.
