AFTER more than eight years, the Mandaue city government finally rescinded its contract with Jadewell Pay Parking Systems Corp. for several violations of the agreement and numerous complaints from the public.

City Legal Officer Giovanni Tianero told reporters they sent the notice to rescind contract to Jadewell last Monday.

The firm has only 60 days to serve the city before the termination of its towing services.

In October last year, the city legal office sent a notice of rescission to Jadewell giving them 60 days to reply and explain their contract violations and complaints of alleged sloppy services.

If the city is not satisfied, they will proceed with the rescission.

Tianero said Jadewell failed to comply with some of the provisions stipulated in the contract that was entered into in 2003 by then mayor Thadeo Ouano.

Among the violations is Jadewell’s failure to post P500,000 performance bond and to provide the equipment and other materials needed in its operations as required in the contract.

The Commision on Audit (COA) also found some discrepancies with regard to their remittances to the city government.

COA pointed out that Jadewell is consistently late in remitting the city’s 10 percent share of the parking collections.

Aside from the firm’s alleged violations in the MOA, the numerous complaints from motorists forced Mayor Jonas Cortes to finally rescind the contract.
