Organizers of Kawasan Falls Marathon eyeing to surpass last year’s turnout

ORGANIZERS of the 2nd Kawasan Falls Marathon hope to make this year’s edition of the race better than last year’s.

They are targeting 1,000 runners to join the race slated May 20 in Badian town, southwestern Cebu.

Run For Sight Foundation’s Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III said that they accumulated 800 runners last year.

The race, whose route passes through the towns of Alegria and Malabuyoc and back to Badian, eyes to showcase the beauty of Cebu province.

During its official launching yesterday at the Cebu Doctors’ University hospital, Larrazabal said they will also concentrate in making this edition of the race better than last year. The primary concern of participants is the shortage of accommodation in Badian.

“We listed all of the hotels and pension houses numbers in Badian in our Facebook page so that they can book and reserve a room for the marathon,” said Larrazabal.

The Matutinao Elementary School in Badian will also be opened for the runners who will already be in Badian at the eve of the race.

Aside from the 21k and 42k categories, Larrazabal also put up a “Run With Donna” category, which is exclusive for female runners with a targeted finish time of 2 hours and 15 minutes.

“I am going to be the pacer of this category. For me, it’s going to be exciting,” said Donna Cruz Larrazabal, the wife Larrazabal.

There will be no cash prizes to be given to the winners. Instead, Larrazabal will give special prizes to the top 10 runners in each category. All finishers will be given a star-shaped medal.

Registration fee is pegged at P1,000 for the 42k and P800 for the 21k inclusive of the race singlet, hydration and food. Registration site is at the CDU Hospital.

Participants are advised to take care of their own transportation to the venue. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
