Supreme Court to hear out media groups on live TV coverage
Supreme Court (SC) spokesperson Jose Midas Marquez said Friday he would meet with some news organizations to hear out their concerns on the High Tribunal’s stringent guidelines on the live coverage of the Maguindanao massacre trial.
“A number of officials from the media groups and networks have requested a meeting. I will be meeting them next week,” Marquez said in a press briefing.
He declined to identify the media groups and networks he would meet.
The Supreme Court recently decided to allow coverage of the Maguindanao massacre trial but banned interruptions such as commercial breaks and live commentaries.
Marquez also said that news organizations can start filing their applications for live coverage with Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes, the presiding judge.
Media organizations should indicate how they will conduct the coverage, such as if it would be via live streaming on the Internet, he said. They can also let their concerns be known to Reyes.
“We can let Judge Reyes handle these concerns. After all, Judge Reyes is the presiding judge and she has full control of the proceedings of course guided by the resolution issued by the Supreme Court,” he said. Nikko Dizon
