LUCENA CITY—Combined police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives on Maundy Thursday busted a suspected big-time trafficker of marijuana and seized some P3.6 million worth of weeds, authorities said Friday.
Lt. Col. Reynaldo Reyes, Lucena police chief, identified in a report the arrested suspect as Jero Gantalao, 28, of this city.
Authorities nabbed Gantalao after he allegedly sold P1,000 worth of marijuana to an undercover police officer in a transaction at 10:40 p.m. in Barangay Ilayang Iyam.
It turned out that the suspect had in his possession some 10 kilos of dried marijuana leaves with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P1.2 million and worth P3.6 million in the street market.
The police were still determining the source of the marijuana seized from Gantalao.
The detained suspect would face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
