MANILA, Philippines — A businessman was arrested by Parañaque City Police Station’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team after security guards alerted the cops about a kidnapping incident along Bradco Avenue in Barangay Tambo.
Reports from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Thursday said that the suspect, Franklin John Abanilla, 37, appeared to be waiting for her 23-year-old former live-in partner to arrive on Wednesday afternoon in the area.
Upon the arrival of the victim, police said Abanilla forced her into a white Foton Traveler Van with a conduction sticker number IOD-947. According to the victim, the suspect had a taser or an electric shock device, which he used on her two times after dragging her into the van.
Before the suspect left the area, the victim was able to call for help from security guards from the Aseana Business District in the city. Subsequently, the security guards informed a SWAT team that was patrolling the area.
After the arrest, officers managed to seize a 9mm caliber pistol with a magazine loaded with six bullets, a taser, a pair of handcuffs, and the van from the suspect.
The complaint has been referred to the Women and Children Protection Center of the Paranaque City Police for proper disposition, while the suspect is under the custody of the SWAT unit.
NCRPO district director Maj. Gen. Felipe Natividad said that the quick response of the Parañaque police is proof that their monitoring and patrolling efforts would lead to crime prevention.
