Warning: Some Lucena teachers’ social media account hacked; students targeted

LUCENA CITY – The Facebook account of several public school teachers in this city were hacked and were used to solicit “malicious videos” from students.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Lucena City (SDO-Lucena) disclosed on its Facebook page that “a number of social media accounts of our school teachers being used for official communication to our students-learners were hacked.”
“Because of which, the unidentified hackers were able to send personal messages to the students-learners using the hacked accounts of our teachers demanding our students-learners to submit videos with sensitive and malicious contents as part of the school requirements,” public school authorities said.
SDO – Lucena, in coordination with concerned government agencies are conducting an investigation.
SDO – Lucena reminded the teachers “to be vigilant in clicking electronic mails or SMS (short message service) sent to them compromising their personal information.”
The school authorities also appealed to parents to monitor their children’s social media activities.
